It began in 2009 when Webb Weaver Debbie Gadbois attended a business webinar. The presenter shared a story of a plumber in Wichita who decided to have a website built to help people find their lost dogs. She immediately checked out lostdogwichita.com, there was a note that they would share the website code with anyone who wanted to start a lost dog website for their city. Debbie emailed, and LostDogVentura.com was started; since lost cats should also have a website, she also built LostCatVentura.com.
Over time with more people wanting to search and add listings from their smartphones and tablets, new mobile-friendly websites were needed. These were launched in 2017 at LostCatVenturaCounty.com & LostDogVenturaCounty.com and are easy for people to post and search listings from any device and to search by cities throughout Ventura County.
At the end of 2017, the Support Ventura County Animal Shelters project was launched to help local shelters stretched to the limit by helping animals displaced by the Thomas Fire. With the shelters’ ongoing need for support in helping the animals in their care, this project will continue indefinitely.
Lost Pet Websites are an easy way for anyone to have a lost cat, dog, or pet website for their city. They’re available for a modest subscription, with proceeds going to The Animal Rescue Site, which funds food and care for rescued animals in shelters and sanctuaries.
Cheers to all who help our animal friends!
